BREAKFAST TIPS

Breakfast is often considered to be the most important meal of the day. That is why its quality needs to be the best possible, so that we can supply ourselves with essential nutrients. The most common greek breakfast consists of cheese pie and coffee, a meal that doesn't support a healthy and balanced diet. Below you can find alternate foods for every part of our ideal breakfast.

  • Bread

It has always been a part of a typical breakfast. You can choose whole grain bread instead of white, since whole grain products are rich in fiber. Also, it is best that you avoid pastry, as it can hide a lot of unhealthy fats.

  • Cereals

Breakfast cereal is an easy and tasty way to increase our daily intake of fiber and vitamins. Go for whole grain cereal or oats, and cut back on the ones containing lots of sugar and chocolate. It is best to combine it with yogurt/milk and fresh fruits.

  • Protein

A breakfast-friendly choice are eggs, since4 they can be made in different ways and accompanied by fresh vegetables or fruit juice. The vitamins and fats of the eggs are beneficial to our body, that is why we prefer them. Alternatively, you can pick chicken or tuna, and avoid processed cold cuts like sausage, ham and salami.

  • Dairy

Yogurt, milk or cheese are usually a part of a breakfast for all ages. A lot of types of dairy however contain added sugar or have gone through a lot of processing, so it is best to choose plain yogurt instead of the ones with added sugar and flavours, minimally processed cheese and milk with no extra sugars and flavours.

  • Fruit

Seasonal fruits and fresh juice are the best options, but not processed juice since it contains added sugars.

  • Coffee

For coffee drinkers, a good option is a coffee with brown or no sugar, and little to no milk or syrup/whipped cream.

Friendly reninder: it is absolutely okay to have days when we want to eat something different, like cake or pie, however we need to routinely eat healthy and get our nutrients from our meals.
